NEW YORK, Feb 10, 2008 / FW/ — Wow! A new and edgy Nicole Miller, when did that happen? Quintessential whimsical designer changed her tune for Fall 2008 and went for edgy avant-garde looks that surprised even her most avid fans that include this fashionista.
Alright, I was expecting her Central American inspired prints, but what she sent on the runway was better. Because quite frankly, though I love the original prints that Nicole Miller is doing, I was also starting to get tired. That’s why this collection totally floored me.
First thing first, this is not about the metro girl or the urban girl that fashion critics are talking about. This is about THE girl, the one who is individualistic and not afraid to take chances up to a certain extent. And that is what is genius about this collection.
Nicole Miller pushed the envelope, just enough to make changes, but not too much to alienate her fans! Kudos to Ms. Miller for that, because as a fan of hers, I loved what she did.
Second, how could anyone say no to that slim fitting black pants and zipped up jacket with a wide belt? Or the silver bustier mini dress/cocktail dress that featured ruching on the bodice and accordion pleats on the skirt? How about the A-line coat in black & white print or the down-filled ovate coat that makes you feel you are in a cocoon? To use one of the favorite exclamation of my editor, ‘W00T!’
Third, Nicole Miller fans who are really into their favorite prints by the New York-based designer should not worry. Ms. Miller did not forget them. There are pullovers with her famous graphic designs. They were also seen in the mini dresses and skirts.
Just to keep the spirit of rock & roll, let me just say… ‘Way to go Nicole Miller!’
