DALLAS, Apr 26, 2003/ FW/ --- Optimal Robotics Corp. (NASDAQ:OPMR), North America's leading provider of retail
self-checkout systems, is pleased to showcase its most recent innovations in
self-checkout technology to the convenience store market. Optimal will be
exhibiting at the NACSTech (National Association of Convenience Stores
Technology) trade show at the Wyndham Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas, April
28-30, 2003 in Booth # 118.
Optimal Robotics will be displaying the compact U-Scan1 single bag terminals,
featuring the latest c-store innovations. New multi-media designed specifically
for the c-store environment helps shoppers easily pay for their food service
items, tobacco, and gas. The new U-Scan stations have also been equipped with
biometrics devices used for age verification, as well as signature capture pads
for quick and easy credit card transactions. Interfaces to both IBM and Retalix
point of sale systems will also be on display.
In addition to the U-Scan1 stations, Optimal will be presenting its smallest
footprint and lowest profile unit, the new kiosk version of the U-Scan1. The new
terminal, which has been reduced in size, has been specifically designed for
debit and credit card transactions and is equipped with signature capture for
added convenience. The U-Scan1 Kiosk(tm) will also dispense cash and may act as
an alternative to a store's existing ATM where space is limited.
"We are very pleased with the growing interest we see coming from the c-store
market. We believe U-Scan will be a very powerful tool for the c-store operator
as competition increases from outside their industry" said Henry Karp, Optimal's
President and Chief Operating Officer. "U-Scan can help increase service levels
by reducing wait times and increasing throughput during critical peak periods."
Optimal Robotics is currently working with two prominent convenience store
operators, who will start in-store testing of their own customized U-Scan models
during the month of May.
