Store Window LONDON, May 26, 2005/ FW/ --- There is a big Yankee presence in Bond Street, courtesy of New York’s designer triumvirate Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan and Calvin Klein.

Donna Karan and Ralph Lauren had two very different approaches in these store windows. While Donna Karan highlighted all fashion merchandise in both her eponymous label and the youth-oriented DKNY, Ralph Lauren opted to feature his home line.

Both houses presented very modern and contemporary store window. Ralph Lauren chose to use a lot of props – cabinets, lampshade, flower vase, mirror, etc, almost a need when presenting home merchandise to give that ‘lifestyle’ aura.

Donna Karan and DKNY windows were almost minimalistic, except for risers and sculpture chairs, there were very few props used.

All the windows, no matter what the approach presented the merchandise in the best light possible. Ralph Lauren wants “you” to live with him, i.e., decorate your home entirely with Ralph Lauren products. Donna Karan on the other hand wants to dress you from morning till night.

The lesson here – you can use different approaches for different types of merchandise. Just make sure that your message is clear because you only have 60 seconds at the most, probably even less to catch the attention of a passerby.
