FW14 ACHTLAND 01/14/2014BERLIN, Jan 16, 2014/ — On Tuesday, Jan 14th, in a full-capacity venue, Achtland unveiled its Fall/Winter 2014-15 collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin.

The brainchild of designers Oliver Lühr and Thomas Bentz, the Achtland Fall 2014 collection references the work and aesthetics of British painter Gary Hume and the surface structures of the Neues Museum, restored and recreated by David Chipperfield.

Oliver Lühr, Creative Director explains, “[the collection] is intended to encapsulate thetension that arises in the play of opposites: for example in the formal eleganceof a Victorian dress shirt paired with the femininity of silk-georgette or the strong architectonic silhouette found in our evening dresses.”

For Fall 2014, Gary Hume’s clear, reduced imagery and hisdefined colour palette flow seamlessly into the ACHTLAND aesthetic. The walls, flooring and frescoes of the Neues Museum post-modernisation provide a vibrant contrast to the reduction that defines Gary Hume’s paintings. Their surface structures bear witness to a lively past: one single surface incorporates several areas of colour and layering: colourful and shifting, smooth and rough, monochrome and painted.

The silhouettes remain true to the DNA of the video: clean-cut elegance with a laidback feel, whilst, as with previous collections, craftsmanship and high quality materials form the core of the collection’s evolution: both sources of inspiration find their way into the collection in the shape of elaborate hand embroidery, painted prints, multilayered chiffon and quilted leather.

The collection combines the highest craftsmanship standards with the selection of high-quality materials from suppliers like Loro Piana (wool and cashmere textiles) and Taroni (silks). ACHTLAND’s collections are entirely produced in Berlin.
