FW14 NANETTE LEPORE NEW YORKIf you were in New York City on February 12th, chances are you saw the Betsey Johnson Fall 2014 show. It was live streamed on eleven screens at Times Square. Talk about reaching a wide audience.

At 71, Betsey Johnson continues to be one of the high profile designers in New York. A fashion icon in her own right, Betsey turned up the heat at the Lincoln Center and at Times Square with her “Rihanna meets American Hustle” inspired threads for Fall 2014.

Her signature upbeat silhouettes hit the runway. Models strutted in mesh dresses, sequined mini-skirts and barely there jumpsuits.

The latest collection revealed remixed iconic prints on new fabrications such as faux fur, spandex and metallic velvet. Rounding out the collection were bedazzled shoes including spiked pumps, crystalized knee high-boots and ruby red embellished pumps. Bold color bags and statement jewelry put the finishing touch on every look.

And of course, at the end, the signature cartwheel. But this time, Betsey was not alone. She cartwheeled with her granddaughters, and ending up in her iconic split for the show’s finale.

Immediately following the first show, Betsey presented a reprise of her runway show for Marist College, entitled Marist XOX Betsey. Betsey was awarded the Silver Needle Icon Award from Marist College in recognition of her longstanding dedication to educating and encouraging the next generation of designers.
