Kenzo Spring 2010

PARIS, Oct 7, 2009 / FW/ — With Sahara as his theme, Kenzo Creative Director Antonio Marras wrote on his press notes, “I describe my Sahara, I have never been there, and like Jules Verne, I imagine and invent it.”

Imagining a woman adventurer, probably modeled after part English-part Italian Freya Stark who led a real-life adventure in the Sahara, Marras then threw in a little bit of Bernardo Bertolucci’s vision of the Sahara via “The Sheltering Sky” and thus making it romantic.

Dressing her in blue and white plaid, blue and white mosaic prints and washed shades of blue, Marras designed drawstring military shorts and military-inspired jackets, sarouel trousers, V-neck kaftans, safari jackets and embroidered lace camouflage.

And the finale, the beauty of the desert was underlined with a parade of black models in bright-hued turbans, harem pants and wrap-tops while it was raining with gold sequins.
