margherita 1519_bimbaThe brainchild of Margherita Missoni, the Margherita Kids Collection launched in the U.S. this March 2015 exclusively at Nordstrom and nordstrom.com. In the rest of the world, it is available exclusively on yoox.com

Featuring contemporary and whimsical silhouettes which are also child-friendly with a take on the 1960s, the Margherita Kids collection features shift and flutter sleeve pinafore dresses and back wrap detailing. Shapes are easy, but never shape-less.

Mixing colors, textures, and prints is the heart of this collection. That, and the idea that dressing children should be easy and fun – for everyone involved.

Feeling comfortable and cozy in what you wear is empowering, especially for children.

Fabrication and Prints

Washed linen, soft, washed and quilted jerseys were chosen for their comfort, just like the soft cotton for the color blocked sweaters. Classics like seersucker, stripes, and dots are mixed with pops of bright contrast piping, braided tassel trims, and Balinese-Batik inspired prints—a technique that Margherita has long treasured from her travels, as she has always loved the naïve simplicity of this technique for children. These include an iconic fish, a soft geometric pattern, and a daisy print in different color treatments for boys and girls.

The theme of the daisy, Margherita’s namesake flower, is further developed in the screen printed tees, which feature sweet and funny cartoonish daisy-superheroes. Moving along with the next collections, the Margherita-daisy will remain the main symbol and trademark of this brand.

Palette

Classic and muted spring shades are the base canvas. Contrasting trim and piping colors are vibrant and unexpected. The final effect is a saturated palette, but not flat, with a sense of movement throughout.

Soft shades of lilac are brightened with lemon-yellow piping and trims. Indigo, navy, white, and fog greys for baby boys, these colors receive a persimmon piping and trim treatment in the girls version.

The Margherita Kids Collection is for baby boys and girls (0-2) and for girls up to 7.
