NEW YORK, NY September 21, 2018

“In fashion shows, you see clothes. In ‘showz,’ you see personalities,” said Sasha Velour as she opened The Gift of Showz at Le Poisson Rouge for Opening Ceremony’s Spring 2019 runway show at New York Fashion Week.

A colorful and spirited event, The Gift of Showz featured over 40 models and performers, all of whom belong to the LGBTQIA+ community, personally chosen by the ‘Nightgowns’ creator. Jiggly Caliente, Shea Coulee and Miss Fame are among the RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants who went on stage to perform in one of the most epic drag shows that graced the United States.

“I hope this is what the future looks like,” Velour said, addressing the audience. “Not just on your stages or on your screens, but every day in your life, being uplifted just like this — belonging just like everyone else and looking fucking fabulous.”

As the show’s grand finale, former Drag Race judge Christina Aguilera performed her single “Fall in Line”  with several of the drag queens, including Velour herself and Aguilera’s drag queen clone, Farrah Moan. Also in attendance were Hayley Kiyoko, Troye Sivan and Nicki Minaj.

“Drag performers have been seen as a low form of entertainment for a while and to be in this space where we’re being treated like valuable performers is world-changing,” Velour told Billboard after the show. “And I hope that will multiply for everyone — not just for me and this cast, but all of the incredible drag performers out there.”
