Wooyoungmi Menswear Spring 2010DALLAS, Nov 29, 2009 / FW/ — Usually associated with the word “utilitarian”, the painter’s pants, whether being used by an artist or the lowly house painter was never deemed as a high fashion item.

For Spring 2010, Wooyoungmi is changing that perception as the designer transformed the painter’s pants, in fact, the whole of a painter’s get up into a modern man’s wardrobe that is not only aspirational but also breaks new grounds in men’s fashion.

First, the trousers: with zippers as closures in the big front pockets to the sewn in “apron” that sometimes morphs into a fabric “chap”, Wooyoungmi gave the painter’s pants a new identity while keeping its utilitarian spirit.

The “worn out” trousers that reveal the knee was given a new life as zippers are now used to “close” the gaps while “aprons” can be worn in front or at the back.

The jackets and the suits were given a similar treatment, where slashes at the elbow were not patched but “zipped”; the sleeves of the trench coat were cut and the shoulders of the cardigan left “un-sewn”.
