Missoni Winter 2019 campaign Great fashion designers have their fingers on the pulse of their audience. And when their labels are global like Missoni, that ability to hone on to the new zeitgeist is multiplied tenfold.

For Winter 2019, Angela Missoni is right on the mark of the ascendance of sci-fi/fantasy in the global consciousness as she chose to have Mert & Marcos shoot Missoni’s latest campaign in Cappadocia, against the surreal volcanic landscape of spired rock formations known as the fairy chimneys.

The landscape is evocative of the sci-fi/fantasy world and the paranormal. With Cappadocia’s arid and beguiling moonscape, supermodels Bella Hadid, Adut Akech, as well as Alton Mason and Dong Su Moon wearing outfits from the Missoni and Missoni Man collection.

The models appeared as magical creatures, supernatural apparitions silhouetted against the terrain and intergalactic travelers caught up in unrevealed and mysterious scenarios.

They also became beings from the future, rendered extraordinarily perfect and seductive through the digital manipulations of Mert & Marcus. Cyborgs composed of human features that both enchant and mystify.

The shoot and therefore the campaign became the stage upon which an exhibition of long, form-fitting dresses in black-and-white or colorful graphic motifs, vertical bands, geometric forms, and sophisticated monochromatic hues unfolded.

And the best part? The theme might be out worldly, but the clothes remained of this world. Modern and futuristic, they are surprisingly very wearable.
